The building in which the exhibition takes place was built in 1874 by the architects Bellingwout and van Binsbergen as the main office of the Nieuwe Rotterdamsche Courant (New Rotterdam Newspaper). For over a hundred years the property accommodated the presses that printed the pages of a daily that is published today as the NRC-Handelsblad. In 1994 The Dutch Photoinstitute and the Dutch Photoarchive moved in and parts of the building were converted into exhibition space.

With my contribution to 'De Andere Hand' (the other Hand), I attempt to catch the three respective historic aspects of the specific location in one image: 'De andere Krant' is an exhibition of newspapers and archival material.

Graphic design is an important part of my autonomous art-work. None of my projects, exhibitions, art events or theatre projects pass by without the edition of a matching invitation card, a programme, a multiple or another form of publication. A handful of these publications can be classified as newspapers. The four displayed exponents provide a representative impression of my way of dealing with language and literature. In the display case you can see objects that were produced in the course of the projects on which the newspapers report.
