- Both Staten Island and Carteret County are exposed to the tidal movements of the Atlantic Ocean.

- Due to their respective geographical positions (distance: 613 miles), Upper New York Bay and Nelson Bay have different tide tables.

LEVEL READING

With this part of Waterline Tours, a connection will be established between the former location of Sailors' Snug Harbor at Staten Island and its present location at Sea Level. This association will be produced by the experience on one place (Staten Island) of the condition of a connecting element at that same moment on another place (Sea Level). The 'connecting element' is the water of the sea, the 'condition' of the element is the elevation of the water surface: the sea level.

Horace Twiford, our man at Sea Level.

He will make a live announcement of the measurement of Nelson Bay's water level. At the same time the Communicating Vessels' vessel, manned by Ron Rocco, will serve as a medium to obtain a measurement of the water level in the Kill van Kull.
