These are my trousers, although I haven't bought them myself. I always wear the hand-me-downs that Betsy Blan takes from the States (a thousand thanks). There are all kinds of reasons to honour such trousers, but why show them in an exhibition? Maybe it's because of a remark Arnold once made, as he saw me cleaning a bicycle chain with a rag. 'Probably a pyjama trouser of Betsy's father?', he supposed. Whether or not these trousers belonged to her father, I'll leave aside for the moment. But gradually I sensed, and that's what it's all about, that these old pants contained a strong piece of potential. These trousers, rather plain. are filled with foam rubber.
