MEMO

A.

Location: The interspace between the old and the newly built sections of the Stadskantoor (City Office) at the Rodezand.

A metal frame is fit tightly in the 110 cm. narrow interspace at the level of the fourth floor of the five storey building. The frame supports a green house in which forget-me-not seeds germinate. A display right next to the green house shows a picture of the plants in full-grown state. One tip of the frame rests on a window-ledge of the elder section. A steel wire, running from the rooftop, keeps the construction in a horizontal position. The green house can be viewed from the fourth floor through the westward window of the narrow passageway, which links the two sections of the Stadskantoor.

B.

Location: The roof of the newly built section.

A solar panel is placed on a part of the flat topped roof which is freely exposed to sunlight. Two cables connect the module, facing south, with a service room on the fifth floor.

C.

Location: Service room in the newly built section.

In this space, the 'memory': the 12 Volts battery, and the 'brain' of the installation: the voltage regulator and the daylight sensor are stalled. In here, the sunlight converted into electrical energy is managed and stored. The daylight sensor determines when the stored energy is released for further processing.

At nightfall, the daylight sensor activates a small light immediately above the picture of the forget-me-nots: the real view of the slumbering hothouse plants gradually fades out, and is replaced by the illuminated ideal image of full-grown, blooming forget-me-nots.
